Mary Buyer's desk and collection.
I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscoverd before me.![]()

The Mary Buyers Memorial Book Collection was given to the Library of the University of Guelph in memory of Mary Katherine Buyers, B.Sc.Agr. (Posthumous) 1992, OVC Class of 1996.
The collection was kindly donated by her family and friends, by her classmates at the Ontario Agricultural College and the Ontario Veterinary College, and by the Central Student Association of the University of Guelph, that others might share her curiosity for life and love of learning.
Mary was born and grew up in Deep River, Ontario. Most at home out-of-doors, she spent many hours training and competing with her horse, Master Jack, but her greatest goal was achieved when she gained admission to OVC.
Mary died in January 1992 in a hurricane-force wind at the Hermaness Bird Sanctuary in the Shetland Islands. She will be remembered for her spirited tenacity and independence of thought, her love of animals, friends and family, and her zest for life.
