About Me

Helen SalmonB.A., M.A., M.L.S. (University of Western Ontario)

My honours B.A. degree in English Literature included studies in history and psychology. I completed my M.A. in English Language and Literature in 1982, with courses completed in the Romantics, Edmund Spenser, Early Canadian literature, and Norse, Icelandic and Early English saga literature. In 1982, I completed my M.L.S. degree and undertook an internship in government publications and reference librarianship at McMaster University. I have worked at the University of Guelph Library since 1984, with a brief stint at Eastern College in Newfoundland from 1993 to 1995. My career at Guelph has included work as a reference librarian, a collections librarian, and a manager of public services. From 2000 to 2010 I filled the administrative role of an Associate Chief Librarian, overseeing the Library`s Information Resources, Academic Liaison, Evaluation & Analysis, Archival & Special Collections, and Information Services units. As of January, 2011, I am looking forward to undertaking a new career challenge as I join the Library`s Information Resources team to work as a collections librarian for the College of Arts departments.
