The Engineering Peer Helpers provide assistance for students in the School of Engineering. They run the weekly Engineering Study Labs, meet individually with students about topics such as time management and exam preparation, and provide additional assistance through workshops, in-class lectures, and resource development. They are co-supervised by Learning Services and the School of Engineering. To learn more, please visit the Engineering Peer Helper Program website.
The Learning Peer Helpers are at the centre of our services for entering students. They present workshops and provide individual consultations for students on a variety of learning issues, including exam preparation and time management. In preparation for this work, they have received training in presentation and consultation skills and have acquired a solid theoretical foundation in learning theories and their applications to University of Guelph students.
The Student Athlete Mentors are the most important component of our services for entering and continuing student athletes. They staff and run the Student Athlete Mentor program, refer athletes to the appropriate resources in the Learning Commons, and facilitate and lead small group sessions related to learning at university. In preparation for these roles, the Student Athlete Mentors participate in ongoing training in consultations, facilitation, and group interaction skills, based on a solid theoretical foundation in learning and service theories.
