Free Drop-in Help is found on the first floor of the library to the left of the Research Help Desk.
During the fall and winter semesters, Drop-in Help begins in Week 3 and continues to the end of Week 12. Students are scheduled in 25-minute time slots, and are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up begins at the start of each session at 1pm.
Please note: Drop-in Help is not available during the summer term.
This service is provided by graduate student writing advisors (GSWAs) from different disciplinary areas who are trained to address problems in academic writing.
GSWAs will offer help with structuring coherent arguments; using evidence to support arguments; and understanding assignments, grammar, and academic style. Because of the time limitations of a drop-in service, GSWAs will be able to focus on only some aspects of longer writing assignments.
They won't write students' papers, nor will they proofread or edit. Rather they will work actively with writers to help them edit their own work. The role of the GSWAs is to encourage students to develop strategies to improve the quality of their writing.
Visit the Academic Drop-in Centre in Mountain Hall or Lennox-Addington on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm to talk to a Writing Peer about your research and writing. This service starts in Week 3 of the fall and winter semesters.
