Workshops in the library

Writing Services holds a variety of workshops for undergraduate and graduate writing levels. For undergraduate students, we offer a series of workshops presented by Writing peers and Graduate Student Writing Advisors on a number of writing topics. For graduate students, we offer workshops as part of the popular Brain Food series (Graduate Research and Writing). Register online today!

Workshops in the classroom

We will design and deliver workshops to be given in class on specific topics on the request of faculty. In the past, we have offered many different workshops for undergraduate courses geared specifically toward class writing projects and focussing on disciplinary ways f thinking and writing. Topics include "Writing a Public Policy Paper," "Writing an Executive Summary," "Writing a Review of Literature," "Writing in Groups," "Writing a Critical Essay in Fine Art," "Peer Editing," "Writing a Geography Research Proposal."

Brain Food: The Ultimate Power Lunch Series

Earn a Certificate of Recognition in Graduate Writing and Research!

Participants who complete all seven Brain Food workshops will be presented with the Graduate Writing and Research Skills Letter of Recognition in acknowledgment of their efforts to expand their knowledge and skills in graduate-level writing and research. Workshop content is designed to appeal to students across the three major discipline groups: arts and humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. More about Brain Food.

Dissertation Boot Camp

Writing Services Dissertation Boot Camp (DBC) is an intensive ONE-WEEK (Monday to Friday, 8:45am-4pm) program, designed to help graduate students develop effective writing knowledge and habits that will enable them to finish their theses and dissertations in a timely manner. DBC is offered once every semester and accommodates 12-14 graduate students per program. More about Dissertation Boot Camp.

(One-Day) Dissertation Boot Camp

This one-day Boot Camp for graduate students offers key elements from the 1-week DBC program. The morning sessions focus on writing strategies and the research question, and the afternoon sessions teach participants how to structure and storyboard their thesis/dissertation. Participants are expected to attend the full-day program. Register online today!

Writing Tune-Up (coming soon...)

Gain practical skills to improve your writing! This ALL-DAY workshop (9AM-3PM) will target key areas of academic writing: Grammar, Puncutation, and Common Sentence Errors; Thesis Statements/Arguments; Style - Flow and Coherehnce; Paraphrasing and Plagiarism. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome.
