ca 1869-

The Clan Leslie claim descent from the Hungarian noble, Bartholf, who obtained the barony of Lesselyn in the 11th century. His son, Malcolm, was the first to take the name from the lands in Aberdeenshire, Angus, Fife, Mar and the Mearns. The clan chiefs eventually became the Earls of Rothes and Leven. The Clan Leslie includes the family names of Abernathy, Carney, Laing and More. Gifted by Clan Leslie Society International, and contributed to by many members of the Leslie family, the Clan Leslie Collection includes the records of the American Clan Leslie Society and Clan Leslie Society International, genealogical charts, books, photographs, correspondence, and ephemera. Additional accruals are expected. A digital representation of the exhibit, “The Clan Leslie: A Celebration of 950 years of Leslies in Scottish History, Literature, and Culture,” held at the University of Guelph Library, August 2016, is available at: https://digex.lib.uoguelph.ca/exhibits/show/clan-leslie
