Numeracy, Math & Stats Skills

  • Build math skills and be better prepared for your courses with the Numeracy & Quantitative Reasoning Initiative.
  • The Math & Stats Learning Centre is located on the 3rd floor — open 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, during the fall and winter semesters.
  • For help with locating and manipulating data for your research, or with geospatial (GIS) data, visit the Data Resource Centre located behind the Research Help Desk, 1st floor. Email to ask questions or sign up for an appointment.

Research Skills

  • Having trouble finding that book or article you need?  Don't know where to start looking for the right information?  We welcome your questions at the Research Help Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. Contact us by chat, e-mail or phone at x56888 — just "Ask Us."
  • Free introductory workshops provide a step-by-step an overview of effective research strategies. Sign up, show up, and save yourself time and frustration in the long run! To check out our offerings and register, visit Reg.

  • Watch for Librarians in your classes!  We're there to support your research for specific assignments and help you build your research skills throughout your time at U of G.

Technology Skills

  • The CCS IT Help Desk team is staffed by University of Guelph students who provide clients with a positive, customer service-focused approach to technology.
  • Visit the CCS IT Help Desk team for assistance and technical support with IT-related questions or problems.
  • The IT Help Desk is located on the 1st floor of the Library, beside the Research Help Desk.

Time Management, Exam Preparation, & University Learning Skills

  • Meet with a staff Learning Specialist or Learning Peer Helper for information, advice and effective strategies for multiple choice exams, reading difficult textbooks, controlling procrastination and more. To set up a time, email
  • Free workshops designed for first-year students are available throughout the fall & winter. For descriptions and online registration visit Reg.
  • Supported Learning Groups (SLGs) are peer-led study sessions that help students connect what to learn with how to learn in a university setting. SLGs are offered in 12 different first-year courses. You'll be able to discuss difficult concepts, prepare for tests and exams, and get to know other students in your class. Writing Skills

  • For free drop-in help, visit Writing Central on the 1st floor of the library for a 20 min. session with a graduate student TA— no appointment necessary! See the Writing Central webpage for times.
  • Free one-hour appointments are also available with staff writing consultants and Writing Peer Helpers. Appointments can be booked online.
