The largest renovation project in the library’s history is underway!

Timelines

Winter 2017

  • Contractor began renovations and upgrades on part of second floor
  • Study tables and chairs were reorganized (moved from the second floor and lower level to the first and third floors)

Summer 2017

  • The second floor is closed for renovations. This means that the following areas will be closed or relocated for the summer

    • The Branch Research Data Centre (BRDC)
    • The THINC Lab – relocated to MacKinnon 401, 402, 411, and 437
    • The SAS Exam Centre – SAS exams will be held elsewhere
  • The lower level is closed for renovations

    • Archival and Special Collections is closed for the summer

Access to Physical Collections

Once It's All Over

3rd Floor

  • Upgraded washrooms

2nd Floor

  • A new, expanded Archival & Special Collections: Reading Room, seminar room, exhibit space
  • A new Digital Scholarship Centre that will bring together services, programming, and expertise to support emerging forms of scholarship, and will complement the THINC Lab and the Branch Research Data Centre (BRDC), allowing for additional collaborative research
  • A new media studio that will provide students and researchers with access to multimedia production and editing technology and expertise
  • Upgraded and expanded student study spaces – including new study carrels and group study rooms
  • New furniture, carpeting, lighting, and ceilings
  • Upgraded washrooms

Lower Level

  • Updated & expanded student study spaces including new group study rooms and new carrels
  • New compact storage for library materials, reducing the footprint for collections and increasing user space
  • Increased storage space for Archival & Special Collections with new, upgraded environmental controls
  • New furniture, carpeting, lighting, and ceilings

Throughout the building

  • New windows
  • Greater energy efficiency and overall improvements to building environmental controls
