Issue: Many researchers are discovering that the agencies who provide funding for their projects are mandating that the results be made fully accessible.
Some of the Tri-council funding agencies are now mandating that the results of funded research be publicly available. It is important to check the policy of your funding agency.
Solution: Seek publication in open access journals such as BioMed. Deposit research outputs and data in our institutional repository.
It is increasingly important to utilize scholarly research results more effectively and productively by preserving and sharing research outputs. Researchers are compelled to comply with funding agencies’ policies. Institutional repositories provide the digital space and expertise to facilitate faculty compliance to these newly implemented policies. Open access journals facilitate a faster, wider distribution of the latest scientific discoveries.
The SHERPA/Juliet Web site provides a list of funding agencies and their corresponding open access dissemination requirements of research outputs as a condition of fund acceptance. OpenDOAR provides a directory of academic open access repositories internationally.
At the library: The library has instituted several initiatives related to new and forthcoming policy changes.
