Wireless Computing

Text Size: S M L XL

Wireless Internet access is available to University of Guelph faculty, staff and students throughout McLaughlin Library and OVC Learning Commons, but is concentrated around public seating areas. You may not be able to connect in areas such as the book stacks.

What You Need

To use our wireless network, you'll need a laptop or PDA with an 802.11a/g/n compatible wireless network card (most newer laptops come with this capability built-in.) and a University of Guelph central login account.

Guests visiting the University of Guelph can acquire temporary access to the campus network without charge by obtaining a U of G Guest Access Account. Guest will be given the login ID and password that will provide basic Internet connectivity for web browsing (HTTP/HTTPS) and secure shell (SSH), which works at campus residence network (ResNet) and U of G wireless network (with SSID: uog-wifi only) for a specified period of time.

Student, staff and faculty from other Canadian educational institutions can fully utilize the Inter-University Connectivity (eduroam) with credentials from their home institutions, and do not need U of G Guest Access Account.

Students, staff and faculty can borrow laptops from the Library reserve desk. Wireless printing is available from both the library reserve laptops and your personal laptop.
