This twenty-first issue of Collection Update aims to
provide information on a variety of theatre, rural, and agricultural collections in the archival
and special collections section that have connections with other
circulating resources in the library.
The introductory article -- Shakespeare in our L.W. Conolly Theatre Archives -- outlines a small part of what can be accessed in the library generally. Three other articles focus on our rural, agricultural heritage and the people -- especially Donald Q. Shaver -- who have made important contributions in this area. The Ontario Entomological Society collection, which first came to Guelph in 1969, is also featured. Derek Murray's article on the Wilson Family is an in-depth study of farming that includes a transcription of their account book. Another collection, featuring the writings of Edna Staebler, is also highlighted by Katy Saffery.
True to the tradition of Collection Update, the articles reflect a variety of styles and approaches to the material, from scholarly pieces on historical value to more visual and thematic approaches to collections that may attract a wider audience.
The two editors, Lorne Bruce and Iona Reid, thank all the contributors who found time to complete their articles in the midst of heavy schedules during the winter and spring semesters of 2007.
