The Goderich photographer, Reuben Sallows (1855-1937), devoted his professional career to capturing rural Ontario in pictures (many taken in and around Huron County). His work can be found in the National Archives of Canada, Ontario Archives, the Reuben R. Sallows Gallery at Goderich, and several other collections. Sallows had a reputation for formal, idealized portraiture situated in rustic settings, but many pictures were quite natural. He developed an international reputation and was very successful in securing work in all parts of Canada. To learn more about Sallows follow our two links to Michelle Lambe's "Historical Imagining: The Photographs of Reuben Sallows" and Lynn Campbell's, "R.R. Sallows Landscape and Portrait Photographer." Photographs from Guelph's virtual display change at 5 second intervals. A gallery of Sallows' work is available at the Reuben R. Sallows Digital Library at Huron County Library, Goderich. |
