Time's up! Sorry, but Taste Canada is no longer accepting submissions for the 2012 Awards. Stay tuned for news on nominees, judges and the exciting release of our shortlist.

Taste Canada—The Food Writing Awards is an evolution of the former Canadian Culinary Book Awards. These Food Writing Awards will continue every year to recognize excellence and creativity in our food and beverage writing and publishing. The new branding will further celebrate Canadian culinary food culture, Canadian authors and publishers, while acknowledging and respecting the authority and history of the original Awards.

Winning authors and their publishers will receive recognition through:

  • media outreach
  • marketing partnerships with Canadian publishers
  • a paid Awards event in November 2012
  • a trophy to commemorate winning a Gold Award
  • our ongoing partnerships with Canadian media outlets, retailers and sponsors, and Taste Canada sticker templates for the winning books

Taste Canada - The Food Writing Awards is still managed by the same core staff, but under the leadership of the new National Chair, Karen Gelbart. The staff share a common desire to encourage the development, use and recognition of fine Canadian food and beverage books by instituting these timely changes.

The Awards were initiated in 1998 under the leadership of Jo Marie Powers. In 2003, the University of Guelph joined as co-host. Remaining as a partner, the University has for more than 140 years contributed to Canadian cuisine with programs in agriculture, food science, hospitality and tourism management, and other related fields. The University of Guelph holds Canada's largest culinary collection with more than 13,000 volumes in the Library's Archival and Special Collections. All nominated books will have one copy donated to the University's Canadian Culinary Book Collection.

The shortlist will be announced on August 1, 2012 and the winners at a newly imagined event on November 5, 2012. The list of jury members will be announced on April 2.
