Rural Heritage
A major boost to the Library's rural history collections occurred in 1999 with the acquisition of the library and archives of the former Ontario Agricultural Museum which closed in 1997. These rural heritage collections — focused on history and the socio-economic activities of individuals, groups, and communities in Ontario — span many different disciplines and subjects. They provide primary resources relating to the history of rural development, agriculture, veterinary medicine, apiculture, home management and cuisine, the agricultural implement industry, and family life in rural communities. Together with the library's comprehensive holdings of rural and agricultural monographs and journals, these unique items and collections reveal much about life and work in rural Ontario.
The following list of major archival resources is arranged by call number order in the library's catalogue, Trellis. Each collection or fonds has a unique call number that users may refer to if they wish to examine the materials or consult the finding aid for larger holdings. Finding aids are provided with the Trellis catalogue record (Adobe Acrobat required forr eading PDFs). Paper copies of our finding aids are available in our reading room.
