Course Reserve Policies

  • Materials circulate from the Reserve desk for two hours.
  • Borrowers may have two items at a time.
  • Renewals are allowed only if another copy of the item is currently available at the Reserve desk.
  • Holds are not allowed to be placed on reserve items.
  • Fines for overdue items are $3.00 per hour, to a maximum fine of $30.00 per day.
  • Materials borrowed from the Reserve Desk must not leave the library.
  • Materials at the library's Reserve Desk are restricted to TUG students, faculty members, and staff members.
  • OVC Reserve materials are also available to registered Community and Alumni borrowers.
  • Online Reserve materials are restricted to students registered in a particular course. Logging in to Ares enables access only to courses in which the individual is registered.

ARES is now using Single Sign-On (SSO). A major benefit of SSO is the access to Course Reserve items directly from CourseLink (D2L) without logging in each time. For more information on SSO see the CCS website.

Find Course Reserve Readings now using Ares.

The Ares Course Reserves System provides you with a personalized list of reserve readings for your courses.

When you log in, you will see a list of courses you are registered in for the current semester. If some of the courses you are currently registered in do not appear in the list, it is because no course reserve materials are currently available for those courses.

How to Get Course Reserve Material

  • Log in to the Ares Course Reserves System using your UG Central login ID.
  • Click on a course to display the Course Reserve readings available for that course.
  • Click on a title to view its current status.

Some items in the list must be picked up from the Reserve Desk, such as books or video materials. Click on Current Availability to view the location and status of these items. Note the call number of the item you wish to borrow and present it to Reserve Desk staff.

  • Many Course Reserve readings are available online and can be viewed just by clicking on View this Item. You can also create a "hot list" of the course reserve readings you use most often, or assign tags to help you group or sort relevant readings.

If accessing materials online make sure you have up-to-date software on your computer such as Adobe Acrobat (since most of the reserve documents are in PDF format.) If you have trouble accessing online documents please try our troubleshooting guide.
