Ontario Agricultural Resource Inventory - Land Use

  • Physiography (.exe file – 3.2mb)
Download individual county agricultural resource inventory and physiography data from the Data Resource Centre Geospatial Data Explorer.
The basis for the land use maps is the characterization of an area as part of either an agricultural land use system (i.e. monoculture, mixed) or nonagricultural land use (i.e. idle, built-up, extraction).

The aim of the ARI land use maps (1:50 000) is to identify predominate cropping patterns over time. Users of the data should be aware that the data was collected in the 1980s and recognize that the urban boundaries will have changed.

  • Projection - Geographic - GCS_North_American_1983, DATUM - North_American_1983

Ontario Physiography

  • Physiography deals with the major features underlying rock structures and in particular describes the local land forms composed of unconsolidated materials.
  • Projection - NAD_1927_DEF_1976_UTM_Zone
  • Geographic Reference System - GCS_NAD_1927_Definition_1976, DATUM - NAD27

Southern Ontario Soils Map

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources, are compiling a high quality, detailed, geo-spatial soils database for Southern Ontario. This new database consolidates the existing digital soil data mapped on a county basis onto a seamless and standardized product. The current digital soils data was automated from soil survey reports and maps that were produced over a period of decades.
