Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
A GIS-based approach to information management has been adopted by the Water Resources Information Project at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The WRIP is a co-operative project designed to review the current state of water information in Ontario, gather existing data, improve what is available and implement a strategy to ensure that information is available for effective water management. Other participating organizations include the Ministry of Environment, Municipal Affairs andHousing and Agriculture and Food.
The data is made available by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources through the Ontario Geographic Data Exchange (OGDE) program.

The stream network and watershed data are available in ArcView shapefile format. The DEM 2.0.0 is represented as a grid of regularly space square cells (or raster pixels) to which elevation values are referenced, using a common vertical datum. Cell resolutions are 20 meters in northern Ontario and 10 meters in southern Ontario.
UTM projection, NAD83
A high resolution raster data set covering the province of Ontario. It has been interpolated using ANUDEM 4.6.3 software with NIRVIS contour and water virtual flow as inputs. The DEM has been created through the WRIP, LRC - Peterborough. There are 150 tiles in packaged-product format.
Data is stored as a series of shape file. One file consists of known HYDAT FLOW gauge locations. For each of these gauges, there is a shapefile containing a watershed. A separate MS Access database stores a series of watershed characteristics - such as watershed area, watershed perimeter, lake area, wetland area, slope, gauge elevation and more.
