Adding Lots and Concessions in ArcView 3.1

general Instructions

  1. Obtain a copy of the lot and concession files.
  2. Unzip

Detailed Instructions

Contact the DRC to obtain a copy of the lot and concession files (these are part of the Ontario Fundamental Data Set provided through the Ontario Geospatial Data Exchange. See the Ontario FDS Web page for more details.)

The soil survey files are setup as .zip files. To use them, you can use either the built-in Windows unzip utility or Winzip to first extract the files into a folder. After unzipping the files, using Import71 utility, you will have to decompress the files into the same folder.

  1. Once the files are extracted, go into ArcView and click the Add New Theme button.
  2. Navigate through your computer to the folder where you extracted lot.zip and double-click lot.shp.
  3. Once the lot theme is added to the view, double-click the theme in the table of contents.
  4. Double-click on the symbol in the legend editor to open up the fill palette. In the Fill Palette, click on the third square from the top on the left side — refer to the view below. Open up the color palette, and in the drop-down menu, select Background and click on a box with X through it as shown in the image. Close the color palette window and click Apply in the legend editor.
