Detailed statistics on all aspects of the country are available through a variety of sources. Contained on this page is a list of starting points to locate data.

  • Tri-University Data Resources
    Our largest collection of data resources on all aspects of Canadian life are housed on our TDR website. Included on this site are Census of Canada files for 1971-2001; a large number of Statistics Canada surveys covering many socio-economic topics; CANSIM II, holding 25 million time series; as well as surveys and data compiled by other government departments and agencies. TDR also provides links to a wide variety of reputable external websites which offer free data for download. Follow the External Data link for access.
  • Statistics Canada Depository Services
    Many monthly and annual Statistics Canada statistical publications are now available through our online subscription. Examples include: Canadian Economic Observer, Cereals and Oilseeds Review, Consumer Price Index.

While most electronic sources of detailed statistical information can be accessed through the above Web sites, many other sources are available to researchers.

    Provides basis statistics on population, labour force, agriculture, etc. at the federal and provincial levels.
  • Historical statistics of Canada. (1st & 2nd edition). GovRef CA1 BS11 C516. Online
    Contains approximately 1,088 basic statistical tables on the social, economic and institutional conditions of Canada from the start of the Confederation in 1867 to the mid-1970s.
