Elections

General elections are held after a Parliament has been dissolved and a new one summoned by the Sovereign. For electoral purposes, the UK is divided into constituencies, each of which returns one member to the House of Commons.

Political Parties

The present system of government depends of there being organized political parties, each of which presents its policies to the electorate for approval. The party with the most elected members to parliament forms the government.
