
Statute law consists of Acts of Parliament and delegated legislation (commonly known as Statutory Instruments) made by ministers under powers given to them by Act. Draft laws take the form of parliamentary bills.
Includes subordinate legislation (legislation not directly enacted by Parliament to enable orders to be promulgated quickly during an emergency) and delegated legislation (regulations made by a Minister under the authority of an Act of Parliament or an Order-in-Council).

From October 1st, 2009, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom assumed jurisdiction on points of law for all civil law cases in the UK and all criminal cases in England and Wales and Northern Ireland.
