			<title>Garland Encyclopedia of  World Music Online</title>

			<description><![CDATA[Availability: <a href=\'http://www.lib.uoguelph.ca/go/index.cfm?locn=http://glnd.alexanderstreet.com/\' alt=\'Publisher Site\'>Publisher Site</a>, <a href=\'http://primo.tug-libraries.on.ca/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?dscnt=0&vid=GUELPH\' alt=\'Primo\'>Primo</a> <p><em>The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online</em> is the first  comprehensive online resource devoted to music research of all the  world&rsquo;s peoples. More than 9,000 pages of material and 300 audio  recordings, combined with entries by more than 700 expert contributors  from all over the world, make this the most complete body of work  focused on world music.</p>
<p>Since its first publication in 1997, <em>The Garland Encyclopedia</em>  has been the preeminent reference work for research in this area and a  favorite of libraries everywhere. It has won numerous awards, including  the Dartmouth Medal, the New York Public Library Outstanding Reference  Book award, and <em>Library Journal</em>&rsquo;s award as one of the 50  Reference Sources for the Millennium. Now for the first time, the entire  set of 10 print volumes is available as a single, integrated online  collection, with additional features from Alexander Street Press.</p>
<p>This resource includes <b>1,217</b> essays and images, accompanied by audio examples, for nine different geographical regions: </p>

<p>By using this resource, scholars and students will be able to browse and search hundreds of articles about the music of every continent.  <em>The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online</em> will let users  do a new kind of cross-cultural and comparative research, where broad musical  themes can be explored, and specific, targeted searches can be executed.</p>]]></description>

This resource offers access to a wide range of primary source documents,  including novels, plays, poems, stories, journals,  letters and  diaries, chronicles, religious works, and other literary materials. Searching is based on subject  tags and descriptive text  associated with each manuscript, and images of the complete manuscript can  be viewed, manipulated and navigated on screen.</div>

<p>This unique collection provides an intimate look into the lives and works of more than 2,000 authors and delivers insights into the culture and context surrounding centuries of British Literary achievement.<em> British Literary Manuscripts Online</em> includes rare and previously inaccessible works from the British Library. These priceless documents &mdash; once available only on microfilm or to those with access to the source libraries&rsquo; manuscripts collections &mdash; can now be accessed by students, instructors and researchers everywhere. With this valuable resource, manuscript materials can, for the first time, be brought into the classroom, providing unique access to the authors&rsquo; social networks, attitudes and education, as well as the development of their writings. It offers the rare opportunity to search and review manuscripts online in order to indentify items for closer study.</p>
