Overdue Materials Fines
Course Reserve Materials
- Items on loan for 2 hours – 5¢ per minute, to a maximum of $100 per item.
- Items on loan for 3 days – $20 per day, to a maximum of $100 per item.
Recalled Materials
- $1 per day after the recall due date, to a maximum of $30 per item.
Interlibrary Loans
- $1 per day after due date, to a maximum $15 per item.
Audio-visual Materials
- One day loan items are due the following day at the Library closing time.
- Overdue one-day loan items are fined at the rate of $5 per day, to a maximum $15 per item.
- A/V materials which are on 2 hour reserve are fined at the rate of 5¢ per minute, to a maximum of $30 per item.
- Overdue headphones are fined at the rate of 25¢ per hour, to a maximum $15 per item.
Laptop Computers
- Overdue laptops are fined at the rate of $12 per hour, to a maximum $30 per item.
All Other Materials
- 25¢ per day to a maximum of $15 per item.
Replacement Charges
When a borrowed item is 60 days overdue, lost item and processing charges will be posted
to the patron's account. The minimum replacement charge is $5 but there is no maximum;
charges vary depending on the item. In addition to the replacement charge, the borrower
is charged a $35 processing fee. Refunds for lost items will be issued if a borrower
returns the item before a replacement copy has been re-ordered. When a refund is issued,
the overdue fine will be imposed.
The approximate replacement charge for a laptop is $1200.
How to Pay Fines
- Fines can be paid at the Circulation Desk at the McLaughlin Library.
- Payments can made in person using either cash, debit, cheque, VISA or Mastercard; or by telelphone
at 519-824-4120 (ext. 53618) by VISA or MasterCard.
- Payments by cheque made out to the University of Guelph can also be sent by mail to:

Suspended Borrowing Privileges
Borrowing privileges will be suspended for any borrower who has:
- One or more overdue recalled books.
- One or more overdue reserve items.
- $30 or more owing in outstanding accounts.
Marks not Released
Marks, diplomas, and tuition refunds may be withheld for students who owe $30 or more
in outstanding accounts and who have owed this amount for more than 30 days.
Theft and Vandalism
Theft and vandalism of library materials are subject to prosecution. All such cases are
referred to the Campus Police for action.
Appeals
The University has a committee to hear appeals concerning replacement charges and fines.
Top
