When people think of the library, they often consider it a place for studying and to do research, but we are more than that. It’s a place to explore, relax, and nurture your whole self. One collection that helps with this is the Gryph Reads Collection.
The Gryph Reads Collection is located on the first floor and is the library’s leisure reading collection. Its materials include popular fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, video games and more. The Gryph Reads first-floor shelves are labeled by genre and organized by author for easy browsing. Keep an eye on the frequently changing book displays which highlight books of specific genres, authors, or themes. You can also browse the Gryph Reads Collection online.
The Gryph Reads Collection helps to make the library a comfortable and inviting place for the U of G community by encouraging healthy breaks from working and studying. “By providing fun, up to date titles and materials, Gryph Reads welcomes the U of G community with open arms,” said Abbey Unyi, Gryph Reads Committee member.
The library’s Gryph Reads Committee members are passionate about reading. Below are a few the committee’s favourite books from the Collection:
- A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki – Mark’s pick.
- Orange, Vol 1 & 2 by Ichigo Takano – Christine’s pick.
- City of Bones by Cassandra Claire – Rebecca’s pick.
New library purchases are managed through the Collections & Content Team. The team is responsible for the acquisition, development, and curation of the library’s electronic and print collections to support U of G’s learning, teaching and research, and ensuring that relevant, unique, and useful resources are available for library users.
