Library Media Studio Resuming Support for Audacity Software

The library’s media studio has decided to resume support of Audacity, an open-source audio recording and editing software, after policy changes have been made to address privacy concerns.

Earlier in the summer, the library’s media studio decided to pause support of Audacity due to changes in its privacy policy.

In response to users’ complaints, Muse Group, owner of Audacity, reversed the policy changes. Media studio staff have reviewed the privacy policy and feel confident in the changes and will return to supporting this tool in workshops and consultations, as well as with a help guide and online tutorial.

However, if you do not feel comfortable using Audacity and would like recommendations for other audio recording and editing tools, please feel free to contact the library or book an appointment with media studio staff for a recommendation based on your specific needs.
