The Writing Room

How much do you know about LIB room 133?

The Writing Room, located in room 133 on the first floor of the library, is a space designed for writers of any level to find quiet and comfort away from the busy happenings of campus. This room, equipped with six desks is available for all faculty, visiting scholars, and students at U of G. Writers who wish to use the writing room must make a reservation on WCOnline.

The Writing Room meets an important need on campus: a designated space for writers to focus. The Writing Room provides “a quiet, distraction-free space that facilitates effective writing,” said Noella Gray, associate professor, Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, who focuses on marine conservation governance in her work.

Another important aspect of the Writing Room is its dedication to building supportive writing communities. Navneet Sidhu, a Ph.D candidate, in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology is an avid user of the Writing Room. “The very thought of getting started with my Ph.D. thesis made me feel anxious. I have been looking for a dedicated place to sit and write, and to connect with peers who are working on their thesis as well,” said Sidhu.
