Remote Access to Library Computers
Get access to software on library computers without leaving home
If your course requires you to use specific software that your computer can’t run or doesn’t have, you can access library computers remotely via the LabStats Remote Access Dashboard. Remote access lets you connect to library computers (macOS or Windows) so you have secure access to the software you need from off campus.

The Data Resource Centre (DRC) computer lab
Computers in the DRC lab are reserved for library users who have registered with the Data Resource Centre. Computers in this lab have additional memory to facilitate work with large or complex data sets. In order to request access to computers in this lab, you should send an email to drchelp@uoguelph.ca requesting access.
The Library Accessibility Services (LAS) computer lab
Computers in the LAS lab are reserved for registered students. In order to request access to the computers in this lab you should:
- Make sure that you have registered with Student Accessibility Services
- Contact Library Accessibility Services at las@uoguelph.ca to request access
In addition to all of the software above, the LAS lab also includes:

Instructions on how to access
Before accessing software remotely, you must first connect to the campus VPN. For more information on setting up and connecting to the VPN, visit Remote Secure Access.
Windows
- Connect to the campus VPN
- Visit the LabStats Remote Access Dashboard
- Choose a Library lab in the menu on the left side of the page
- Click Connect next to one of the available computers in the list
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download and open the connection file
- When prompted to log in, click “More choices” and then “Use a different Account”
- Under username, enter “cfs\” (without quotes) followed immediately by your central login username. For example: “cfs\username”
- Under password, enter your central login password
- Click the OK button
Mac
Mac users may need to download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop application through the Apple App Store in order to access remote software.
- Connect to the campus VPN
- Visit the LabStats Remote Access Dashboard
- Choose a Library lab in the menu on the left side of the page
- Click Connect next to one of the available computers in the list
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download and then open the connection file
- Under username, enter “cfs\” (without quotes) followed immediately by your central login username. For example: “cfs\username”
- Under password, enter your central login password
- Click the Continue button
- Click the Continue button
