On June 26, 2024, the Royal Canadian Mint released a new circulating commemorative coin and webpage that pays tribute the life and legacy of L.M. Montgomery, and there is a U of G Library connection. “This is the first time in my career as an archivist that I've had the honour of working directly with the Royal Canadian Mint, and I am so pleased that our repository was able to collaborate on this unique and exciting project,” said Curtis Sassur, head, Archival & Special Collections.
The Royal Canadian Mint celebrates the literary icon on their website, sharing several items from the library’s collection. "We were able to support the Royal Canadian Mint by providing access to our rich collection of photographs related to the life and legacy of the beloved Canadian author,” said Graham Burt, associate, Archival & Special Collections.
The library’s L.M. Montgomery Collection is vast and includes primary and secondary sources, such as Montgomery’s diaries, scrapbooks, manuscripts, and printed publications – both Montgomery’s personal library and approximately 70 first and subsequent editions of her own works.
