Welcome to the McLaughlin Library! We’re happy you’re here. As a U of G staff member, there is so much you have access to at the library. Here are a few tips to get you started.

  1. You can stop by the library or use Omni to browse our collections. Omni is the library’s search engine, connecting you to millions of books, journal articles, and other physical and digital materials. Learn more in this Getting Started with Omni guide.
  2. Use your U of G central login to sign into Omni to access our resources, request materials, and view your library account. Your U of G staff ID is your library card which you’ll need to check out books at the library. Learn more about borrowing and accessing resources.
  3. You have access to our full suite of services. Meet with an expert to improve your writing, studying, researching and English language skills. If you are conducting research, we can also support you at any stage of the research lifecycle.
  4. Year-round the library offers workshops on a variety of topics. Browse our Workshops & Events calendar.
  5. Looking to learn a new skill? Check out the library’s Digital Learning Commons to discover videos, guides, and templates on hundreds of topics. Our library guides are also a great place to start when learning something new or freshening up your skillset (like using new software, creating media projects, writing for different audiences, and more).
  6. Discover the Archives! The library’s Archival and Special Collections consists of eight collection areas. Be sure to check out current exhibits when you visit the library. Exhibit cases can be found throughout the first floor of the library, and the exhibit room is on the second floor. These spaces are open for viewing whenever the library is open.
  7. Explore the library’s video & audio collections where you’ll find streaming media, online audio recordings, DVDs, CDs, VHS, vinyl, and more.
