Peer Helpers

Library peer helpers are part of the University of Guelph’s Peer Helper Program, which has over 250 undergraduate and graduate students who volunteer across campus in experiential learning positions. Library peer helpers provide a range of academic support to other students on campus. They receive ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development.

Supported Learning Group Leaders

Supported Learning Group (SLG) leaders are at the core of the Supported Learning Groups Program, which offers free group study sessions in select first- and second-year undergraduate courses. SLG leaders are responsible for: 

  • Leading twice weekly interactive study sessions 
  • Sharing effective approaches to studying, note taking, and predicting exam questions with SLG session participants 
  • Attending class lectures for the course that they are supporting 

Recruitment for SLG Leaders begins in February for positions in the next academic year (September to April). 

Learning Peer Helpers

Learning peer helpers support undergraduate students in the development of academic skills and strategies such as reading, note-taking, time management and studying, by:

  • Providing individual consultations and academic coaching to first- and second-year students 
  • Presenting workshops and engaging in outreach to undergraduate students 

Recruitment for learning peer helpers begins in October for positions that start in the winter semester.

Writing Peer Helpers

Writing peer helpers support first-year undergraduate students in the development of their academic writing by: 

  • Providing individual writing consultations to first-year students in the Academic Support Hub 
  • Engaging in outreach to undergraduate students 

Recruitment for writing peer helpers begins in October for positions that start in the winter semester.
