Exciting changes have been underway at the library to provide enhanced student experience
Many changes have been underway over the past few months as we made headway on plans we've been making for some time. “The student experience is paramount to us. Over the years, we’ve engaged with students to hear what they need from us and this is a start to us making it happen,” said Amanda Etches, university librarian. “With thoughtful planning, this summer, we’ve added over 200 seats and enhanced a number of library spaces.”
The Academic Support Hub is now open
In Winter 2026, we asked you to help us name this space. The decision was unanimous, and with that, the library’s Academic Support Hub was born. If you book an appointment for writing, learning, studying, time management, presentations, and English language support, this is where you’ll come.
What once was staff space has become a new student space. Additional perks? Appointments that happen here will have increased privacy; we were able to reclaim additional first floor seating along the oak wall, and when consultations are done for the day, the hub becomes an open study space.
Want to learn more about this space? Come to the Open House on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 3, so you can meet the staff and learn about the support that's available to you.
Goodbye computer pool, hello group study!
With the dwindling use of desktop computers, coupled with ongoing calls for more group study, a new group study space on the east side of the second floor is developing. New furniture is on its way! When the space is ready, you’ll find a mix or regular and bar height seating, pavilions with whiteboards and soft seating.
In need of computers? You can now find desktop computers and docking stations for your laptops on the library’s lower level.
The Gryph Reads Collection finds a new home
The Gryph Reads Collection is now located near the library’s entrance. Shifting the collection has created extra room for more student study space on the first floor. If you want to explore the collection but are offsite, you can find the Gryph Reads Collection online.
