Want to feel more confident about your writing? Book a writing appointment with us and find ways to improve your writing. Writing appointments are available and helpful at all stages of the writing process. You do not need to have a completed draft to book or attend an appointment, bring your questions if you have them, and if you’re stuck, we can help with that, too. You can even book an appointment to talk about the feedback you have received on past writing projects.
“There is so much to gain by talking about your writing with a consultant,” said Mary McCaffery, writing specialist, Writing and Learning Services. “First, discussions are a great way to sort out your ideas and develop new ones. Second, the consultant will ask questions to help you gain a fresh perspective of your work. Finally, we provide encouragement by highlighting your strengths and talking about ways to improve.”
What you can expect:
- You’ll meet with a consultant (either a writing specialist or a writing peer helper).
- You can get feedback on your writing at all stages of the writing process.
- You’ll learn strategies for organizing your ideas and structuring your thesis, papers, and chapters.
- You can receive advice on clarity, cohesion, and style.
- Everyone is always improving their writing, which is why writing appointments are available to all students, staff, and faculty at U of G.
What students are saying:
Here’s a recent testimonial from a student who worked with one of the library’s graduate writing assistants, Devan:
“Devan is amazing...Even when I have shown up to [appointments] with no clue what to do or where to start, she has a magical way of paving a path to success for me. She has taught me so much about writing that has forever changed how I approach assignments and my performance on them. Having these resources at the library has been a lifesaver for me and I don’t see myself being able to go on without them now. Even if I have learned and grown it is still an amazing and rare opportunity to have someone you can book time with to look over your paper at any stage and offer feedback or suggestions.”
