Did you know you can get individualized support for studying and time management at the library? By booking a studying and time management appointment, you can get support reaching your academic goals. Appointments can be booked at any point during the semester. “Because these appointments are driven by students’ needs, any time is a good time to book! Some students prefer to meet early in the semester, to get a handle on things to come, while others prefer to meet after they have had a few weeks of classes to settle in,” said Victoria Fritz, learning specialist, Writing and Learning Services.

Any student at U of G can benefit from a studying and time management appointment, even if you feel you have a good grasp on scheduling yourself. “Talking explicitly about time management and studying is not something that is super common in high school, or in undergrad, so it can be nice to have a space to start these conversations,” said Fritz. “The learning peers in particular, being current students themselves, have unique and creative approaches to help making studying more enjoyable and effective.”

What you can expect:

  • You’ll meet with a consultant (either a learning specialist or a learning peer helper) to address any concerns you may have related to studying, time management, test-taking, etc.
  • Together, you’ll work together to develop a plan that meets your needs – there is no one-size-fits all approach.
  • Appointments are 25 minutes long for first- and second-year students, and up to one hour in length for third year+ students and graduate students.
  • You can book appointments as often as once, every other week, or come to a single appointment.
  • All appointments are confidential.

Appointments not only provide a space to talk about academics, but they also provide an opportunity for students to build connections across campus. “A student might be wondering if the issues they are having are tied to time management, so they may hesitate to book an appointment. My response is to book the appointment anyways, since if we don’t think we can help, there is still a good chance that we can connect them to someone on campus who can,” said Fritz.
