Kick off this semester with support from the library

The Fall 2026 semester is here, and the library is glad to welcome you (back) to campus! Whether you’re new to U of G, or rejoining campus this semester, we have what you need to successfully reach your academic and research goals. Also be sure to read the Fall 2026 Welcome from our University Librarian.

The start of a new semester is full of so much excitement and maybe some nervousness – which is why we want to make you aware of library services and resources that can support you as you navigate university learning and research. Check out our Guide for Undergraduate Students, or our Guide for Graduate Students, to get familiar with some of what the library has to offer you.

Visiting the Library

Library spaces are designed with you in mind—with a mix of open and quiet study floors, study carrels, and bookable study rooms; there's something for everyone. Not sure where you're going? View the library map to find the space you're looking for.

Academic, research, and teaching support

We provide thoughtfully curated services, programming, and resources that support you no matter what journey you're on at U of G. Learn more about how we can support your unique needs by visiting one of the following pages:

You don’t have to navigate university alone – book a library appointment for support

The library offers a variety of appointments for students of all levels. Ones you may be interested in learning about early in the semester are:

Studying and time management appointments

If you’re looking to reach your academic goals, you’re going to want to book a studying and time management appointment. It’s up to you if you want to meet once to address a particular concern, or if you want regular appointments, which take on a coaching vibe. We can support you with:

  • Planning and using your time effectively
  • Controlling procrastination and perfectionism, and completing your assignments, thesis, or program on time
  • Setting goals and maintaining motivation
  • Preparing for different types of exams, including multiple choice
  • Reading from textbooks and scholarly articles effectively
  • Taking better notes and studying efficiently

Writing appointments

Want to feel more confident about your writing? Book a writing appointment with us and find ways to improve your writing. Writing appointments are helpful at any stage of the writing process. You do not need to have a complete draft to book or attend an appointment – bring your questions if you have them, and if you’re stuck, we can help with that, too. We can support you with:

  • Learning strategies for organizing your ideas and structuring your thesis, papers, and chapters.
  • Clarity, cohesion, and style

English language support appointments

If English isn’t your first language, we’re here to support you with reading, writing, listening, pronunciation, and communication. We offer appointments and other programs to support you during your time at U of G.

Fun fact: All appointments listed above are now offered in the new Academic Support Hub located on the library’s first floor.

Curious what other appointments we offer?
